Mark Luginbill recently learned that Jim Verchota passed away in Delano, MN in 2021. I remember Jim as a cross country runner at Glenbard. I couldn't handle such long distances, but we both were on the track team: he as a runner and me as mostly a field sports guy (high jump, discus, and shot put). I always admired his ability to run very long distances.
The following is from his online obituary:
James Walton "Jim" Verchota
September 5, 2021
James Walton Verchota, “Jim” age 69 of Delano was born August 5,1952 in Illinois and passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Even though gardening and running were his true passions, he spent his days traveling the country as an over the road truck driver with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Many people dislike their job, but not Jim. It gave him exactly what he wanted, peace and quiet.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel (Tibbets) Verchota. He is survived by his wife Sharon; children: Christine Verchota, Abigail (Justin) Collins, Emmanuel Verchota, Michaela (Steven Clark) Verchota, Simon (Alicia) Verchota, Benjamin (Alixandra) Verchota; grandchildren: Moselle, Atira, Hannah, Austin, Lily, Chase and Sydney; siblings: Greg (Beth) Verchota, Beth Schriock , John (Mary) Verchota and Bill Verchota.
A celebration of life gathering was held on Sunday, September 26th from 2 to 6 p.m. with time to share memories at 3 p.m. at the Delano Senior Center.

I'm sorry to hear of another classmate's passing. It sounds like Jim thoroughly enjoyed his life with family and friends.
