The 9-24-23 issue of the Daily Herald included the following obituary:

ROBERT ALLEN Obituary

Robert W. Allen, passed away last Thursday, September 21. Bob was 70 years old. Bob would have been 71 in a few weeks. Bob was an outstanding man. Bob was married to Pat Allen; the love of his life.

Bob is survived by Pat; and his daughter, Jessica Allen. Bob's son, Christopher, died at birth and is buried with our father, Perry and our mother, Mary.

Bob's funeral mass will be at St. Petronille Church, where our mom and dad, Bob and I, his brother Jim, attended church and school.

Bob grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL and attended Hawthorn School, Glen Ellyn Junior High School, and Glenbard West High School. Bob was always interested in cars and became an auto mechanic right after high school. Bob could fix automobiles but also could look at almost any device, figure out what was wrong, and fix it. Bob helped me, friends and family, and many other people. Bob had many many friends. Bob was truly a good man.

After working at a few auto dealerships, Bob decided to work for himself. He worked for an extended auto warranty company and learned the business. Bob then started his own business as an inspector doing pre-warranty inspections and repair inspections. Again, being an outstanding inspector, the companies he represented were sending him work right up until the end.

Bob will be missed.

That's so sad about Bob. I didn't really know him, but he seemed like such a nice person. May his family be comforted with fond memories of him.

It’s always sobering when those we thought immortal prove us wrong. But that feeling is replaced by inspiration when they prove us right. Bob's affable nature and complete lack of pretense meant there are a lot of folks in and around the Glen Ellyn area who have their own stories to tell about the man. As I recall from our high school days, it seemed like Bob was always smiling and always in a good mood. I'm sure he will be dearly missed and I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and close friends.
